Research from the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) shows that a disappointingly high proportion of teenagers struggle to understand money matters, and they are not alone.
Many older people too are equally financially ignorant, we are told. Lusardi argues that people often say, wrongly, that financial knowledge can be acquired with experience.
But if the evidence from a new survey index is any indication, that way of learning may, in fact, be very slow or not work well at all. Lusardi is the key mover behind new courses to help us all to become better informed financially.
